From November 26 to December 2 in Romania, the first round of Euro-2026 (WU-17) Group A6 qualification will take place. The opponents for Ukraine's women's team will be the hosts, Switzerland, and Austria.

Head coach of the Ukrainian WU-17 team Lyudmila Lemeschko commented on the official website of the UAF about how her players are preparing for their upcoming matches:

— We will depart for Romania by train on November 24. Before leaving, we conducted a short-term preparation stage in Kyiv. There were issues with arranging a friendly match, but we still managed to play against the boys' team of Metalist 1925 — 3:3. Karina Lespukh (twice) and Sofia Kozishkurtt scored goals. This game was important for determining the 20 players who will participate in Euro qualification.

— In the list of footballers you called up for the team, there were only representatives of domestic clubs…

— We decided not to take any risks and invited only those players whose abilities we knew well. In my opinion, all the strongest players in this age category came to Kyiv. By the way, most of them previously played for our women's team WU-15.

— Did you not encounter any problems gathering information about future rivals?

— My assistants and I decided to focus on collecting data about the first match opponents, Switzerland. We will get the most up-to-date information about other participants by watching their matches in the first round.

As for the Swiss team, which I consider the main contenders for victory, they play compactly and aggressively in midfield, actively using the flanks. By the way, during the friendly match we played tactical schemes that we will use in our opening game. We might play with two defensive halfbacks, but most likely we will defend.

— Who are the leaders of our team?

— Before the start of the games, I do not want to single anyone out. Let the girls show their skills on an official level, then we will talk about this topic more specifically.

We are really looking forward to returning home with something in our hands. We take each match seriously, but it seems that the decisive one will be against Romania. The main thing is not to finish last and retain our place among the strongest teams.
