Today, September 9, the Ukraine U-19 youth team (players born in or after 2007) played their third match at a preparatory tournament during a training camp in Spain.
The game started off with a goal. As early as the fifth minute, the Spaniards capitalized on a corner kick — Corralécho was first to the ball near the far post. However, the blue and yellow quickly regained balance. On the 12th minute, Popov intercepted the ball in the opponent's half, outpaced defenders into the penalty area, and won a penalty which he himself converted.
Before halftime, the hosts took the lead again: an interception in midfield ended with Cortés finding space for a shot that ricocheted off Garabajiya and found its way into the net.
In the second half, head coach Dmitry Mykhaylenko made numerous substitutions as usual to distribute playing time among players. The Ukrainians had several opportunities to equalize. For instance, Ysin could have scored from close range but was blocked by a defender. Kamensky also had a chance after receiving a long pass and outmaneuvering the opponent before facing the goalkeeper, though the latter reacted in time.
The outcome was decided on the 87th minute when Spain scored their third goal from outside the penalty area.
