The Ukrainian U-19 team under the leadership of Dmitry Mykhaylenko has arrived in Spain for a training camp. During this gathering, the blue and yellow will participate in a prestigious tournament where they will play against teams from England, the Netherlands, and Spain.

The day before their departure to the Spanish city of San Pedro del Pinatar, the head coach of our team spoke about the upcoming plans for the squad on the official website of the UAF.

"Mr. Dmitry, this is the final stage of preparation before the Euro 2026 (U-19) qualification round. What will be your main goal during this gathering?"

"Yes, this is our last stage of preparation before official matches. As for plans, I want to say that this team has not gathered for 15 months, after the final part of Euro 2024 (U-17). Of course, a lot has changed in youth football during this time. Some players who were then in the starting lineup no longer have playing practice, some play very little. But at the same time, new names have appeared. Therefore, it is necessary to get acquainted with boys who are called up for the first time and understand the level of players who have progressed quite well over this period, especially during matches against such strong opponents."

And the coaching staff must once again explain the philosophy of play to the team and see how the players perceive this information under pressure from teams like England, the Netherlands, and Spain.

"In a previous interview, you said that 80 percent would be determined at the September gathering for qualification. Is everything still on track?"

"Yes. Unfortunately, we have several injured players from Ukrainian clubs. We will not count on Vladyslav Tyutyunov, Pavel Lusin, and Bohdan Redushko. Therefore, at this Spanish gathering, the same 80 percent of players who will meet official matches."

"Currently, there are 11 footballers in the list representing foreign clubs. Are there any others on the radar?"

"Of course. For example, Artem Stepanov went to the gathering with the youth team. It would be great if he stays there, but if he returns to us, it will definitely strengthen our team. We are counting on him. In an extended list, there are several more players, but we need to see them in action."

"Will our rivals at the upcoming tournament be represented by their strongest squads?"

"To be honest, it doesn't really interest us. There are many players for the main team in these squads, there is fierce competition, and they can easily change players without affecting the quality of their game. We don't have such an opportunity yet. We will go with what we have, and I believe in my wards."

"Despite this, do you want to win at these prestigious tournaments?"

"Yes. But our tasks are slightly different. We need to compare our level, understand it. There are many forwards in our list, so somewhere we consider playing with two strikers, keeping this idea in mind. This experience will give us the opportunity to look at various game options. We want to create moments, play on equal terms against strong opponents, qualitatively reach the opponent's penalty area, and act more confidently and reliably near our own goalposts. We want to be competitive in matches with authoritative European teams."
