In the opening round, Oleksandr Sytnyk's wards drew with Montenegro (1:1), while Estonians suffered a heavy defeat against Italy (1:8). Compared to the previous match, the coaching staff of the blue-and-yellow team made two substitutions: Yablonsky and Hamzyk were replaced by Gordiyev and Dziurynets.
The Ukrainians seized control from the first minutes, constantly pressing on their opponents' defense. Despite numerous opportunities, Olein proved reliable at the back, saving his team multiple times. Eventually, constant pressure and a large number of set-pieces paid off. On the 40th minute, after a corner kick from the left flank, Panchyshyn won the aerial duel, and Buravtsov was first to react on the rebound, sending the ball into the net from the goalkeeper's line — 1:0. Before halftime, Rybak could have doubled their lead but the Estonian goalkeeper made a spectacular save from an overhead kick.
In the second half, there were fewer sharp moments, yet the advantage remained with the Ukrainians. On the 76th minute, blue-and-yellow increased their lead — again after a set-piece. Hamzyk took a corner, and after the goalkeeper's clearance, Serdyuk was first to react on the rebound, sending the ball into the net from close range — 2:0! This score held until full-time.
In another match of the group, Montenegro managed to draw with Italy at a score of 2:1. Before the final round, blue-and-yellow have four points and lead the quartet thanks to additional indicators. The next game for Oleksandr Sytnyk's wards will be against Italy on October 7th. It should be noted that in order to advance to the second round of the League A, it is necessary to secure one of the top two spots in the group.
