The head coach of the French national team, Didier Deschamps, commented on his team's victorious result (2:0) in their away match against Ukraine in the first round of the 2026 World Cup qualification group stage.

"This match was like a return to school and immediately against a strong team. It's very pleasant to start the season with a win."

We played well in the first half, but we should have scored more than one goal. In the second half, we had less strength, less energy, and were less aggressive in our play.

However, I believe that we controlled the situation on the field. I don't think there was any decline in our game; rather, the opponent showed their strength.

We won without conceding a goal, but Ukraine's national team had two excellent opportunities," Deschamps stated.
