Today, on August 31, two central matches between teams that secured their spots in European competitions last season took place. In Kyiv, "Dynamo" hosted "Polesye." Tomer Yosef opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute. However, under Oleksandr Shovkovskiy's guidance, his team not only equalized but also went ahead with efforts from Guerrero and Boyalskyi, who scored a brace — 3:1.
In the second half, Nazar Volosin finally settled any doubts about the winner. The blue-and-whites demonstrated their best start to the season by securing four wins in four matches with a score of 4:1.
At "Lviv Arena," where "Shakhtar" hosted silver medalist "Oleksandria," there were no surprises. The orange-and-black team made a strong statement for victory even before halftime. Initially, Artem Bondarenko headed in Pedro's pass, and shortly before the break, the Brazilian doubled their lead.
In the second half, guest goalkeeper Viktor Dolgii, who replaced experienced Mykita Shevchenko at halftime, saved a penalty from Elias. However, this did not save "Oleksandria" from defeat.
This round saw impressive performances by players called up by Serhiy Rebrov for the September national team matches. In Dynamo's lineup, Taras Mykhalko, Mykola Shaparenko, and Nazar Volosin (who scored a goal) played the full match, while Vitaliy Boyalskyi (brace) was substituted in the 80th minute. Oleksiy Hutsulak of Polesye played all 90 minutes and provided an assist for a goal, while Bohdan Mykhailichenko and Oleksandr Nazarenko were also substitutes at the 59th and 73rd minutes, respectively.
For Shakhtar, Dmitro Riznyk, Valeriy Bondar, Mykola Matviyenko, and Oleg Ocheretko played from start to finish. Artem Bondarenko, whose goal secured the win, was substituted in injury time, while Yurim Konoplia made his debut for the first half.
Pavel Kaliuzhnyi of Metalist 1925 traditionally led his team with the captain's armband and played the entire match against Rukh.
Now, the Premier League is on a break due to the national team's start in qualification for Euro-2026: On September 5, blue-and-yellow will face France, and on the 9th — Azerbaijan. Matches of the fifth round of the Ukrainian championship will begin on September 12.
